how to care for your handmade jewellery

Silver and gold jewellery can get dirty, tarnish & react to strong chemicals. They can also bend & even break under extreme stress.

However, if cared for, your handmade jewellery can last a lifetime & there are things you can do to help keep your jewellery in tip-top condition.

  1. Make sure to remove any jewellery items before undertaking any of the following tasks: applying perfumes, sprays, lotions & makeup; bathing, showering, attending spas, etc; using any strong chemicals or cleaning products; heavy-duty activities such as sports, gym, etc.

  2. You can clean silver & gold jewellery using an old soft toothbrush & mild soapy warm water. Make sure to rinse it thoroughly & dry using a soft paper towel.

  3. Wear your jewellery! Silver is more likely to tarnish when it is sat in a box. When not wearing your jewellery, be sure to keep it in an air-tight box to help prevent tarnishing.

  4. To restore a soft matt finish, rub gently with a green scouring pad

  5. For polished pieces use a specialist silver polishing cloth (available from most big supermarkets in the cleaning aisle) to bring back the shine.
